Obituaries from newspapers: Death of P. V. Weems at Chester A cloud of darkness was cast over this town and vicinity when we heard of the death of Phidella Weems, which occurred at his home at 1:15 Monday morning, February 13, 1911. Although we knew the end was near it came as a shock to all. He had been afflicted for several years with lung trouble and the last few months was a great sufferer, but bore it without complaining. He was 32 years old when he died, and was married to Miss Sacca Gold in 1902. To this union were born three sons and one daughter, who besides his mother and two brothers are left to mourn their loss. On account of the severe illness of his mother, the body was taken to her home at Wanda, where the funeral was conducted Tuesday afternoon. In his youth he remembered his Creator and sought his care, and guidance, but later beame(sic) careless and indifferent and turned aside from God, but later was reclaimed. Again the evil one got hold of him and he had not lived a christian life the last few years. We know not how he was prepared for death, but we leave him in the hands of a Merciful God. Della will be missed by his circle of friends and in business, being a partner in the Weems & Robertson livery barn here. He will be greatly missed by his mother and brothers, but most of all by his devoted wife. His little children will never know the love and tenderness of a father's care. God alone can be father and comforter to them. The funeral was in charge of the I.O.O.F. May the God of all consolation comfort the bereaved hearts. Resolutions of Respect Wheras it has pleased our Heavenly Father to call from our midst our beloved brother, Ex-Financial Sec., P.V. Weems, a member of our order I.O.O.F. No. 764 of Chester, Mo., Feb. 13, 1911: Resolved, that in the death of him we feel a great loss of a faithful brother but we bow in submission to our Heavenly Father's will. Blessed are they that die in the Lord. Resolve, that we extend to his wife and children and relatives our sincere and heart-felt sympathy in their sadness and bereavement. Be it further resolved that a copy of these resolutions be spread on the minutes of this lodge and also a copy sent to the county papers for publication.
Committee: J. A. Ellis, Phidella Weems of Chester, Mo., died at his home there, Monday morning at 1 o'clock. No truer friend that Dell was ever known in this community. He was absolutely unpurchasable. We have seen him tried and he came out of the trial as pure as the tear on a mother's cheek. We suppose that some friend will write his obituary and we will gladly publish it. Good Bye, Dell! And may God look in mercy and Love on the dear ones who now mourn for you.
